As a documentary wedding photographer looking for images that present both a feeling and a moment, I feel that this picture, taken at the Victoria and Albert Hotel in Manchester, of the bride embracing a loved one has both. The picture was taken in natural light just before the wedding breakfast, and the bride and groom (just off-camera) were waiting to be presented to their guests. This beautiful, unposed, moment has that feeling that weddings often bring – the crossing of arms, the hand resting gently on her head. The slightly open mouth and closed eyes give the bride a feeling of love and vulnerability.
The composition works nicely with a central triangle and inner triangles, but most of all I know that images like this will be treasured and passed down in the family and become a legacy in years to come.
